Read up on the information and recipes we’ve shared with you so you can get into the right mindset, become familiar with my daily protocols and have a really good experience. If this is your first fast, go easy on yourself. Become educated and you’ll feel more confident as you proceed through the week.

When you start out I recommend you really experiment to see which fruits and vegetables you are attracted to. Go to the market or the grocery store and smell the oranges, look at the watermelons, the beets and the carrots. Buy the ones you feel most attracted to. This is often an indication of the nutrients our body desires. Always try to buy foods that are in season and good quality organic produce.

We really support you in listening to your body. Choose any variety you like or you might like to just drink something like CABALA juice, which I know a lot of our members choose to do.

For me, in the morning, I’m usually attracted to orange juice, orange-pineapple juice or even a watermelon juice, as my body craves for something really sweet and hydrating. This juice is full of vitamin C and antioxidants, so it boosts my energy, and I am ready to go.

Then, in the afternoon, I might have a Cabala juice. I make it with carrots, apples, beet, lemons, and sometimes, I even add some greens or things of this nature. In the evening, I like to have some green juice like celery, cucumber, parsley, spinach or some other greens that really nourish my body.

Ideally you’ll be using a cold-pressed juicer as they keep nutrients longer. I believe Kuvings is the best juicer on the Australian market as it is super high quality and extracts the maximum nutrient-dense juice. But any juicer is fine - aim to not juice for more than 1-2 days in advance though, because the juice starts to oxidize.

All of these protocols aid elimination. When we fast, our bodies begin to clean out years of accumulated mucus, toxins, parasites, heavy metals, plaque, saturated fats.

The whole point of a juice fast is not to stick only to juices, but to allow your body to learn how to appreciate extra nourishment. And, of course, you should do whatever you feel your body needs to make the whole experience of fasting more enjoyable.

If you’re thirsty or hungry, just smash through some juice, drinking 2, 3, or even 4L of juice. And drinking around the same in water as well. The more hydrated you are the better off you’ll be.

You could even do a warm veggie broth in the evenings, which I incorporate at my juicing retreats. I know when I have this myself it feels so nourishing and satisfies me in a different way, which can make it feel easier to fast.

When we go through this process of fasting and begin to eat again, it’s important we first feed ourselves mentally, energetically, emotionally, and then physically. When you go slow and involve all of your senses and all of your energy bodies, the process of eating becomes really orgasmic.

What you choose to eat afterwards will either help you maintain that amazing feeling of lightness and vitality or it will make you feel tired and heavy. If you start overloading your body with junk food or processed foods, you will probably feel sick. We don’t want that.

I believe the best way to break a juice fast is to really go into a fresh fruit market and look at what’s in season. Let your body tell you what it is attracted to.

Maybe it’s mango, avocado, or tomato. Whatever your body needs, I think the most optimal way to do this is to pick one food and focus on it. Sit there and look at its shape, size, and color. Does it remind you of an organ of your body? For example, the tomato reminded me of a heart with its 4 chambers and coincidentally, tomatoes are good for the heart and circulatory system.

The cut it really slow so the fresh smell escapes and you start salivating. This process of salivation is really important because it creates the enzymes needed to break down that food. Now, take that food, close your eyes and put it in your mouth and really just chew that up and feel the sensations. This is the moment when you may feel some gratitude, have an intention or think about the kind of healing or beautiful things you want to attract in your life.

This is the process we do on all of my fasting retreats and it’s absolutely amazing. Please, give yourself this gift.

Once you do this, you can eat more, just do it a bit slowly and really satiate yourself. You can have five small meals a day but focus on simplicity until your digestive system is getting full and you start to have bowel movements again. This may be a bit funky for the first couple of days, but don’t freak out. Your digestive system (by the way, there is 30 feet there) needs to be filled back up before you start having solid bowel movements.

If you start to feel sick, don’t panic – just cut it back and slow down the whole process of reintegration.

The 4 channels are respiration, perspiration, urination and defecation. You can support the body’s natural system for eliminating waste by making sure all of these channels are functioning optimally.

We’ve included information to help you achieve this so please take the time to look at the resources and educate yourself on how to best support your body during this fast. Our goals is for you to have a really good experience.

Going through a juice fast gives your body the time it needs to really heal yourself and give your body the nutrients that it’s lacking.

Stage 1 (day 1-2) is when the toxins are at their highest and you’re likely going to get the most hungry and irritable without food. But this is temporary and we’re going to support you through this as best we can. I find staying busy, drinking lots of water, getting into the sun and breathing deeply with the 7 Rounds of 7 really helps.

It is common in the first wave of cleansing, especially if you’ve never fasted before, to experience headaches, dizziness, nausea, bad breath, glazed eyes and a heavily coated tongue. Don’t worry, this is the brilliant intelligence of your body healing itself. It will pass.

During day 3-7 the fats are broken down and converted to glucose. Your body embraces the fast and the digestive system is able to take a much-needed rest. Ketones suppress your appetite by communicating with the food-satiety center of the brain (called the appestat) and the fast becomes much easier and more satisfying.

Symptoms to expect may include oily skin and perhaps a few pimples as old rancid oils are purged from your body. A pallid complexion is also a sign of waste in the blood. Periodically, the lymphatic system expels yellow-colored mucoid matter through the Juice, urine, nose or throat, which can be shocking! But the good news is, your body is well on its way to healing.

If you want to extend your fast, go for it! Ultimately, I don’t recommend that women fast for more than 28 days (lunar month) and men for more than 40 days (solar month).

As you proceed into the 3rd and 4th stages of fasting you should notice greater energy and clarity of mind.

Old injuries or conditions can become irritated and painful again as the body begins to break down and repair old scar tissue. Sunshine, clean fresh water, clean air and nature will all give the body more energy and support the healing process.

Simply head back to the dashboard to choose the water path. Or, if you want to take things to the next level, but you’re not quite ready for a water fast, you could incorporate the principles of intermittent fasting. This is when you only take in caloric nutrition (in this case juice) during certain hours of the day.

So for the highest levels of healing I would recommend drinking juice within a certain period of time like 12pm to 6pm. That’s going to give you an 18-hour window of water fasting to promote maximum levels of ketosis and detoxification, as well as promote a process called autophagy (which is the body regenerating itself).

By noon the next day you’ll find you’re actually very hungry and you’re really looking to nourish yourself with those juices. Then, it’s just like, “OMG, this is amazing!”. In my opinion, about 2 liters of juice between noon and 6pm is ideal, and I recommend you drink 3-4L of water a day as well. This is going to nourish your body, give you everything that you’re looking for, alkalize you and really help with detox.

  • 6am Drink 1L filtered water with freshly squeezed lemon juice and a pinch of sea salt.
    Walk 30-45mins
  • 7am Your choice of personal morning ritual, such as Tibetan Rites, Shake & Bake.
  • 9am Have up to a litre of whichever juice you choose, shower with guasha
  • 10am Go for a walk in the sun, breathe 7 Rounds of 7, do an enema or book in a Juiceic
  • 11am If you’re a coffee drinker and starting to feel the pang, opt for a peppermint tea.
  • 1pm Take a break and sip on a glass or two of juice. Remember to “chew” your juice as this produces digestive enzymes and really just appreciate the flavors
  • 3pm Check that you’re staying hydrated and having enough water.
  • 6pm Dinner juice time. You could mix it up a bit and have a glass of juice followed by some heart warming vegetable broth.
  • 10pm Enjoy a warm cup of herbal tea or fresh lemon and water + treat yourself by lighting some candles & have a relaxing bath!
  • Not feeling great? Follow these suggestions to get you through your day.

A cold-pressed juicer is the best option as they help retain the nutrients in the juice. I believe Kuvings is the best juicer on the Australian market as it is super high quality and extracts the maximum nutrient-dense juice from your fruit and veg.

We’ve got a special deal for you with the guys at Kuvings, so if you want the details, just shoot an email to office@healthyself.co and my team can help you out with that.

My answer is absolutely yes! Make it fun and feel free to experiment with a variety of combinations. Nature has created us to seek out things that smell and taste good. In general, I’d say that some of the sweeter types of fruits complement some of the non-sweet vegetables really well.

One of our most popular combinations is a juice called Cabala — that’s made from carrots, 3 different colors of apples, beetroot and lemon. If you wish, you can add some fresh ginger as well. Mono juices like straight up orange juice or carrot juice are great. The point is to go with your taste, choose the combinations you love and ENJOY.

How long is a piece of string?! This is a tricky one because everyone’s body adapts differently. I believe that the first time you ever do a juice fast you should go easy on yourself. Drink as much juice as you need. It might be 2, 3 or even 4 or more liters a day. Drink the same amount in water as well.

Fasting on really limited amounts of juice, and drinking it only certain times of the day is something you can experiment with once you’re a more experienced faster.

You should always do whatever you feel your body needs to make the whole experience of fasting more enjoyable. If you’re thirsty or hungry, just smash through some juice, drinking 2, 3, or even 4L of juice. And having about the same in water as well. The more hydrated you are the better off you’ll be.

I have to admit that this is a tough one because there are people who have too much sugar (hyperglycemia), and there are also those who don’t have enough sugar (hypoglycemia). I’ve facilitated Type I and many Type II diabetics through juice and water fasting, but they’ve been clinically monitored at my retreats. So, I absolutely recommend that if you have Type I or II Diabetes, please be regularly monitored by your practitioner.

People who are drinking a lot of fruit juice WILL have an immediate spike in their blood sugar. We’ve noticed that generally after 2-3 days, it doesn’t spike as much because there’s not as much fat in the circulatory system causing the blood sugar to stay there. But always take care.

If you’re a Type I or Type II diabetic, and you want to do a fast, I’ve found that sipping small amounts of juice throughout the day and regular blood sugar monitoring helps people keep the blood sugars within a comfortable level. I’ve got more information here on my blog: How to Control Diabetes.

Fasting has so many benefits, but there are some situations where caution and consideration are necessary—pregnancy and breastfeeding being two examples.

I do not recommend doing a fast during pregnancy or while you are breastfeeding because it is a really sensitive period of life. The food that you eat daily during this time can be emotionally satiating as well, so you should feel free to enjoy it.

Once you are done with that whole process of pregnancy and breastfeeding, you will have the rest of your life to fast in order to get more energy, feel better and heal yourselves without potentially causing your breast milk to stop.

If you really wanted to fast, then I recommend intermittent fasting. This is where you choose to eat between certain times; say for example noon– 6pm. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably organic, and basically just go into super healthy eating mode!
