How Can I Change The World To Be A Better Place
I think all of us at some point have thought, How can I change the world to be a better place? There’s always something we are seeing that may stir us up and make us angry. But rather than just staying angry, the key is to always look at our own actions.
I’ve shared some information about this before on social media (my facebook rants like this one for example!). And whilst sharing information in such a way probably does have a great effect on people and can motivate us to improve life in general, I know the biggest impact actually comes down to what actions I take in my day to day life.
I love the quote by Ghandi, “Be The Change You Want To See In The World”.
For me personally, this is a big one! I want to be the change, and that’s why I do what I do. And I hope to inspire others around the world along the way.
It’s all about Gnosis, Praxis, Intellectus
This brings me back to something my father taught me when I was young. He brought my attention to the ancient saying called Gnosis, Praxis, Intellectus. It means to learn, then to do that which you know, and therefore become that what you know.
So, if I learn about, let’s say, pollution in general, I will learn about disposal of rubbish (in developing countries like Bali, there are not the systems in place of First World countries). This drive for knowledge reflects my love for oceans and my wish for living in a world without pollution. Then, it comes down to what I personally can implement into my life that I know will have a profound impact on my environment. And then, when I find out what that is, I need to actually DO it.
This doing is the “Praxis”, i.e. practicing what we know. And as we practice, we really develop the gifts that come from that knowledge, which is wisdom.
Then, instead of sharing information about it with people, you are a shining example of actually living it. I also truly believe that at that point you don’t actually have to say anything. Everyone around you will be affected by the energy you emit, and this is amazingly powerful.
If I spoke about health all day, but didn’t do any of it, then no change is really happening.
How You Can Change The World To Be A Better Place
If you become an embodiment of that which you would like to see changed, people get attracted to you. They genuinely ask about what makes you exude such an energy. They want to know what you do that makes you so healthy. They want to know because there is clearly something different about you. At that point, when someone comes to you, you can genuinely share your knowledge, and they will most likely listen and take that on.
To me, the phrase “Be the change you want to see in the world” is really about walking the talk.
Let’s all practice what we preach. I’d like to hear your thoughts on this. So, you can leave your comment on my Facebook page.
And if you’d like to see me “praxis” what I preach, come to Bali to join one of my Praxis retreats where you can learn the type of lifestyle I live that keeps me feeling so full of energy and passion for life.
